The New Haven County incident happened on Wednesday, Aug. 30, in Milford, the city’s police department announced.

At approximately 3:50 a.m., Milford Police spotted a white tanker in the side parking lot of Lasse’s Restaurant, located at 611 Bridgeport Avenue.

Upon investigation, officers saw Westchester County resident Wilfredo Santiago, age 38, actively stealing oil from a vat off the side of the restaurant.

Santiago, a resident of Yonkers, reportedly admitted to the theft and was taken into custody.

Lasse’s, a family-owned restaurant in the area for nearly six decades, had reported to police that it had experienced several of these overnight oil larcenies, though it is unclear whether Santiago is connected to all of these reported incidents.

He was charged with:

  • Larceny
  • Criminal trespass
  • Operating a motor vehicle under suspension

Santiago is due in court on Wednesday, Sept. 27.
